Combining Botox with Dermal Fillers for Optimal Results
While both Botox and dermal fillers are very effective on their own, combining these treatments can provide even more impressive results. Combining both means that we, as Botox injection specialists, can create a more comprehensive treatment that simultaneously targets different types of wrinkles and signs of aging. Essentially, this approach allows our patients to achieve a more balanced and youthful appearance without the need for invasive surgery or extensive downtime.
Understanding the Difference: Botox vs. Dermal Fillers
Before exploring the benefits of combining these treatments, it helps to understand what makes them different — and why that difference matters.
Botox: Targeting Dynamic Wrinkles
Botox (botulinum toxin) is a neuromodulator that works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles responsible for repetitive movements like squinting, frowning, and smiling. Over time, these repeated muscle contractions create what are called dynamic wrinkles — lines that form with expression and gradually become more visible even at rest. Common areas treated with Botox include:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines between the brows (glabellar lines)
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
- Bunny lines on the nose
- Lip lines and chin dimpling
Beyond cosmetics, Botox also offers therapeutic benefits, including relief from chronic migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and muscle spasms. At Aesthetic Lane, we also offer Dysport and Daxxify as alternatives to Botox, each with slightly different onset times and durations.
Dermal Fillers: Restoring Volume and Smoothing Static Wrinkles
Dermal fillers take a different approach. Rather than relaxing muscles, they add volume beneath the skin to smooth static wrinkles — lines that are present even without facial movement — and restore fullness that’s been lost through the natural aging process.
At Aesthetic Lane, we carry one of the most comprehensive filler menus in the Orlando area, including:
- Juvederm collection — Voluma XC, Vollure XC, Volbella XC, Volux XC, Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC
- Restylane collection — Restylane-L, Contour, Kysse, Lyft, Refyne, Defyne, Eyelight, Silk
- Skinvive — a unique injectable moisturizer for skin quality improvement
- Biostimulators — Radiesse and Sculptra, which stimulate your body’s own collagen production for longer-lasting, natural-looking results
Each product is formulated for specific areas of the face, allowing us to tailor your treatment with precision.
The Advantages of Combining Botox and Dermal Fillers
1. Targeting Multiple Types of Wrinkles at Once
Since Botox addresses dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, and fillers address static wrinkles and volume loss, combining the two allows us to take on multiple signs of aging in a single treatment session. The result is a more thorough, harmonious improvement that neither treatment could achieve alone.
2. A More Comprehensive Facial Rejuvenation
Aging isn’t just about wrinkles — it’s also about structural changes like loss of cheek volume, hollowing under the eyes, thinning lips, and softening of the jawline. A combined approach lets us address all of these concerns together, creating results that look naturally refreshed rather than “treated” in a single area.
3. Potentially Longer-Lasting Filler Results
Research suggests that Botox may help slow the breakdown of hyaluronic acid, the main component in most dermal fillers. By reducing muscle movement in treated areas, Botox may reduce the mechanical stress that degrades filler over time, potentially extending how long your results last.
4. Fewer Treatment Sessions Overall
By combining treatments in one appointment, patients often find they need fewer visits overall to maintain their results. Our team will work with you to build a maintenance schedule that fits your goals and lifestyle.
5. Natural-Looking, Balanced Results
One of the most common concerns we hear from new patients is the fear of looking “overdone.” At Aesthetic Lane, our philosophy is subtlety and balance. Using Botox and fillers in combination, we can achieve results that enhance your natural features rather than change them — refreshed, not frozen.
What To Expect at Aesthetic Lane
Free Initial Consultation
Every patient at Aesthetic Lane begins with a complimentary consultation. During this appointment, your injector will assess your facial anatomy, listen to your concerns and aesthetic goals, and work with you to create a fully personalized treatment plan. Together, you’ll decide on the areas to treat, the products to use, and any other considerations specific to your skin and structure. There’s no pressure — this is your opportunity to ask questions and understand exactly what to expect.
The Injection Process
On the day of your treatment, your injector will begin by cleansing the skin and applying a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. Botox is typically administered first using a fine needle targeted at the relevant facial muscles. Once complete, your injector will proceed with the dermal filler injections, using either a needle or a cannula, depending on the product and treatment area. The entire combined procedure usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated.
Our board-certified injectors — Brittany Lane White and Jane Critchett — bring years of experience and an artistic eye to every appointment, ensuring results that are precise, safe, and tailored to you.
Aftercare Guidelines
Both Botox and dermal fillers require minimal downtime, and most patients return to their normal activities the same day. You may experience mild, temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites, which typically resolve within a few days.
To help ensure the best possible outcome, we recommend following these aftercare steps:
- Avoid strenuous exercise and heat exposure (saunas, hot showers) for the first 24–48 hours
- Do not massage or rub the treated areas, as this can cause product to shift
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first night to reduce swelling
- Apply ice packs gently to treated areas to ease discomfort
- Avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours
- Hold off on facial treatments such as facials, peels, or microneedling for at least one week
- Protect your skin from prolonged sun exposure and always wear SPF
Your injector will review all aftercare instructions with you in detail at your appointment and is available to answer any questions during your recovery.
When to Expect Results
Botox results typically begin to appear within 3–7 days and reach full effect around 2 weeks. Dermal filler results are visible immediately, though some initial swelling may mean final results are best seen after 1–2 weeks as well. Most Botox results last 3–4 months, while fillers can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the product and area treated. Our team will help you build a maintenance schedule to keep your results consistent.
Is a Combined Treatment Right for You?
A combined Botox and filler treatment is a great option for patients who:
- Have both dynamic wrinkles (caused by expression) and static wrinkles or volume loss
- Want a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation from a single appointment
- Are looking for longer-lasting filler results
- Prefer a non-surgical approach to maintaining a youthful, refreshed appearance
That said, every face is different. Our injectors will help you determine the right combination — and the right products — for your unique anatomy and goals. In some cases, biostimulators like Radiesse or Sculptra may be recommended alongside or instead of traditional fillers, depending on your skin quality and the results you’re looking to achieve.
