There are always a lot of questions surrounding botox treatments, and it’s just a normal part of having any medical procedure done. One of the more commonly asked questions surrounding botox injections is if you can wear makeup immediately after.

Can I Wear Makeup After Botox?

The short answer is yes, but not immediately after.

Botox injections are completed through a small needle, and after the procedure, you’ll have tiny punctures from where your provider injected the Botox. They shouldn’t be noticeable, and you may not recognize them easily, but they can pose problems if you want to wear makeup immediately after your procedure.

In order to avoid getting an infection or having complications, it’s recommended that you don’t apply makeup to your face for at least four hours after the procedure. If you need to wear makeup sooner than that, wait at least 30 minutes for the small injection punctures to close up.

While you may be tempted to apply makeup to cover some of the swelling, it’s best to let your skin rest. However, if you don’t feel comfortable walking around without makeup, don’t hesitate to ask your doctor how long you should wait.

More Botox Aftercare Tips

Wearing makeup is just one of many concerns people have after a botox treatment.

Another common concern people have is whether they can exercise after the treatment. Any vigorous exercise should be avoided for at least 24 hours. This is because exercise increases blood flow which can result in the botox spreading and becoming less effective in the areas of injection.

You should avoid facial massages for a full day as well. The botox needs time to settle, and if you get a facial or touch your face too often during the healing time, you could accidentally move or rotate the botox. Even though your face may be sore and swollen, try not to touch it, or you may end up with a different result than you wanted.

As long as you don’t go to sleep a couple of hours after the procedure, you shouldn’t have to worry about lying down. However, it’s best to keep upright for 4 hours after the treatment. After this amount of time, you should be able to sleep as you usually do without moving the botox.

After your treatment, avoid saunas, tanning beds, and direct sun for 4 hours. Being in any of these areas is bound to raise your blood pressure, which can promote bruising in the injection area. While it may not be immediately noticeable, you’ll regret it the following day when you wake up to a bruised and swollen face.

The same is true for alcohol. Try to avoid drinking for a full day to lower the chances of bruising. Even if it’s just a glass o wine, it’s better to avoid alcohol for 24 hours than risk waking up to a bruised face.
