Lip injections 101
Having soft, shapely lips can be a desirable trait. However, not everyone is born with perfect lips. Fortunately, there’s no need to worry over this because you can still get the sultry look you want with a little help from Aesthetic Lane and lip fillers. Lip fillers have become increasingly popular amongst Americans. Before you make an appointment with your medical provider, it’s essential to understand what you’re getting. Aesthetic Lane is here to provide you with a brief course in lip injections and what to expect from the beginning to the end.
Defining Your Lip Goals
Every lip augmentation begins with a consultation. In this stage, you will sit down with your provider and discuss your aesthetic goals. You will most likely be asked the following questions: Are you looking for a subtle shape or dramatic volume? Do you want to add gentle contours, or reduce fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth? Regardless of your desired results, your provider will design a customized lip injection plan to help you achieve them.
Choosing the Right Dermal Filler
Most lip fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body. Although different lip fillers are made of this same material, there are slight variations in how each product is formulated, thus creating different results. The two most popular lip injections are:
Juvederm – Juvederm offers a diverse collection of fillers. Juvederm products provide a vast range of volume options from subtle to super voluptuous.
Restylane – Restylane is an excellent choice for soft, natural fullness, and for smoothing out vertical lines around your mouth.
After your initial consultation, your provider can tell you which product will be best for you and help you achieve your aesthetic goals. In some circumstances, you may feel like you need to use a combination of fillers, instead of just one.
What to Expect From a Lip Augmentation Procedure
Lip injections can be done in your provider’s office in a short period. Before the injections are administered, you may have a topical numbing cream applied to your skin to help reduce discomfort. Then, your provider will slowly inject the filler in and around your lips, shaping carefully and adjusting accordingly to attain the desired results. Side effects from the procedure may include bruising and swelling at the injection sites. However, these effects are usually minimal. Most patients use ice packs or over the counter pain medications to control discomfort. Everyone is different, so you should talk to your provider about what works best for you.
Life After Lip Injections
While you will see changes to the size and shape of your lips instantly, the results won’t be visible for about a couple of weeks. Depending on the types of fillers used and where they were injected, you will enjoy the beautiful, natural-looking result for anywhere from six months to a year. Also, since lip fillers are temporary, you will need to repeat the treatments after the six months to a year period to maintain your results.
